Wandile’s photography is a powerful tool in rewriting her traumatic history as a queer black woman. Her work utilizes the subject as an agent in reversing the gaze, She wants the subject to have the power, engulfing the viewer within the eyes of the subject, asking them to truly analyze the power of the gaze, to create new and diverse cycles of thoughts and associations that come with the action of “looking”—providing a chance to engage with societies perceptions while also challenging one’s perceptions, perspectives and assumptions.
